… Doritos partnered with Brooklyn, New York-based interactive design studio Smooth Technology, which developed the software over six months. The development team used artificial intelligence and machine learning to train its software to recognize the precise sounds involved in a Doritos crunch, analyzing more than 5,000 different crunch sounds along the way.
Software developer Dylan Fashbaugh trained the AI on the sound of over 5,000 Doritos crunches over the course of half a year, then separated the voice from the crunch to remove the annoying sound from the audio.
Training AI
The Crunch Cancellation AI software was trained with over 5,000 Doritos crunch sound variations to filter out crunch noises before they get streamed. The PC app displays each crunch as an audio waveform so you see the power of AI in action.
